The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in another addition to their running back roster. Pittsburgh is bringing on veteran running back Trey Sermon with a one-year contract, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. Sermon participated in a tryout with the Steelers at rookie minicamp.
The Ohio State alumnus recorded 258 yards and two touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts in the past two seasons. Sermon was selected in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers during the 2021 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he accumulated 167 yards and scored one touchdown before moving to Philadelphia in 2022. In four years, Sermon has gained 505 yards with an average of 3.8 yards per carry and scored five touchdowns.
With Kaleb Johnson and Jaylen Warren as the primary running backs, along with Kenneth Gainwell included in the mix, Sermon will serve as a solid backup and participate in special teams. With Cordarrelle Patterson remaining on the roster, this may suggest a split between Pittsburgh and the experienced running back/kick returner.
