Stefon Diggs is already giving the Patriots early signs he’s locked in and ready to do something special with Drake Maye

Posted on June 18, 2025

New Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs does not look like someone who tore his ACL less than a year ago.

He posted a video on his Instagram, showing him running routes just 165 days after his ACL injury. If this is any indication, he’ll be ready to go by the start of the season, which would be major for Drake Maye and the Patriots.

Diggs has been present at Gillette Stadium for the start of the voluntary offseason program, getting familiar with the coaching staff and his teammates.

And with that, Diggs gave an update as to where he thinks he is in his recovery after suffering a torn ACL in Week 8 of the 2024 season during his introductory press conference.

“Sh**, when the whistle blows,” Diggs told reporters about when he feels he can return. “We’ll see. I’m ahead of schedule. I’m trying to stay ahead of schedule. I’ll pretty much take it day by day. I’ll try not to put the carriage before the horse. But here we are — here’s the horse right here. I’ll let you know, though. We’ll keep playing it by ear. I’m gonna stay ahead of schedule for now and I’ll let y’all know.”

Diggs had six consecutive 1,000 yard seasons before the injury prevented him from getting his seventh in a row. And the receiver admitted that he feels that played a factor in the negotiations and the contract.

“I kind of figured [the contract] was going to be around that area, considering I’m coming off the injury, but also the fact that I’m one of the only receivers that had six 1,000-yard seasons consecutively [prior to the injury],” he said. “The production, it’s always been here. I can move the chains. I can do intermediate. I can go deep. I did that all throughout my career. My résumé probably speaks for itself, but it was more so the injury that would deter or make the money is what it is.

“I look at it definitely as an opportunity. What could’ve been, could’ve been. At this point I am where I am, and I’m thankful.”
