Netflix has officially announced its upcoming original documentary, “The Underdog,” which will follow the historic and unique journey of Tom Brady, the legendary NFL quarterback and five-time MVP. The film is set for global release on May 10, 2025, and is already being heralded as one of the decade’s most anticipated sports documentaries.

Produced by Netflix Sports in collaboration with Brady’s own production company, 199 Productions, “The Underdog” delves deep into the incredible life story of a man who rose from a sixth-round draft pick to arguably the greatest player in NFL history. Through rare interviews, never-before-seen material, and Brady’s own comments, the documentary presents an intimate and uncensored depiction of the obstacles, achievements, and unwavering work ethic that defined his 23-year NFL career.

A story about grit, determination, and defiance.

The title “The Underdog” echoes Brady’s now-mythic origin story. Selected as the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, Brady entered the league with minimal expectations. What followed was a spectacular climb typified by seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVPs, and an unequaled record of leadership and resilience. The documentary will follow Brady’s journey from competing for a roster place to becoming the face of the NFL.

“People always talk about how I wasn’t supposed to succeed,” Brady says throughout the trailer’s narration. “But the reality is—that doubt was gasoline. “It still is.”

Behind the Helmet: The Man Off the Field.

In addition to highlighting his football brilliance, “The Underdog” delves into Brady’s life off the field. From his intense training regimens and unrivaled mental preparation to the emotional toll of public scrutiny and personal sacrifice, viewers will get a rare glimpse into the man behind the accolades. The film also explores his move from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, culminating in his stunning Super Bowl LV victory on home turf – a moment that secured his position in NFL history.

Former teammates, coaches, competitors, and family members appear in the documentary, including Bill Belichick, Rob Gronkowski, Peyton Manning, and others who played key parts in his illustrious career.

A Cultural Icon’s Lasting Impact

Netflix’s president of sports content lauded the film, writing, “Tom Brady’s tale is about more than football. It is about believing in oneself when no one else does. ‘The Underdog’ exemplifies what it is to rise, lead, and leave a legacy.”

As we approach the May 10 release date, “The Underdog” promises to inspire both old fans and newcomers. Whether you enjoy football or simply admire the perseverance of a true champion, this documentary promises to be a remarkable tribute to one of the greatest players of all time.

Tom Brady may have retired from football, but with “The Underdog,” his tale is about to take a new turn – both on screen and in history.
