The Wait is Over: Andrew Whitworth Finally Receives the Recognition He Deserves, Winning the Coveted Offensive Lineman Award

Posted on May 22, 2025

After years of dominating in the trenches and being a model of consistency and leadership, Andrew Whitworth has finally received the ultimate individual accolade for his position — the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award. Though long considered one of the premier offensive tackles in the NFL, this award is a long-overdue recognition of a player who exemplified toughness, intelligence, and excellence on and off the field throughout his storied career.

Whitworth spent 16 seasons in the NFL, splitting his career between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams. Drafted in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, he quickly established himself as a reliable and dominant left tackle. With an ideal combination of size (6’7″, 330 pounds), footwork, and football IQ, he consistently neutralized elite pass rushers and served as a cornerstone of both franchises’ offensive lines. His longevity was just as impressive as his performance — Whitworth started over 230 games in the league, a remarkable feat at one of the game’s most physically demanding positions.

While he received numerous Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections over the years, Whitworth often flew under the radar compared to flashier offensive stars. Linemen rarely receive the public recognition they deserve, despite being essential to every offensive play. Still, those in the league always knew Whitworth’s value. His coaches trusted him implicitly, his teammates looked up to him, and opposing defenders respected him.

What makes Whitworth’s recognition even more special is the timing. He retired after the 2021 season, capping off his career with a Super Bowl victory with the Rams. At 40 years old, he became the oldest starting offensive lineman in Super Bowl history and played at an elite level until his final snap. His performance that season, combined with his leadership in the locker room, underscored just how valuable he was — not only as a player but also as a mentor and role model.

Off the field, Whitworth’s impact has been just as profound. He was named the 2021 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, honoring his extensive charitable work and dedication to community service. Whether it was donating to underserved communities, mentoring young athletes, or supporting families in need, Whitworth approached life with the same purpose and discipline he showed on the field.

Now, with the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award finally in his hands, Whitworth’s legacy is complete. He is not just remembered as one of the best left tackles of his era, but as a leader, humanitarian, and example of sustained excellence in professional football. This award serves as a final, fitting tribute to a player whose contributions went far beyond the box score — and whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

Andrew Whitworth has waited a long time — and now, the wait is finally over.
