Just hours after trading former MVP Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees, the Chicago Cubs made another move on Tuesday, sending recently acquired catcher Matt Thaiss to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, as confirmed by the White Sox. Thaiss, 29, spent the last six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, where he posted a .208/.313/.342 line over 245 games.
The Cubs had only acquired Thaiss a month ago in a trade that sent cash considerations to Anaheim. Thaiss will join Korey Lee to form a catcher duo for the upcoming season. In 2024, Thaiss played 57 games, hitting .204/.323/.299 with nine doubles, two home runs, and 16 RBIs over 157 at-bats. Though primarily a catcher, Thaiss has also played 47 games at third base and 31 at first base in his MLB career. This trade fills the White Sox’s last open spot on their 40-man roster, meaning no other roster moves were necessary.
