Tom Kim learns punishment after PGA Tour star’s outburst left
After causing damage to the locker room at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea following the Genesis Championship last month, Tom Kim was issued a warning by the KPGA.
Kim’s dream of victory on home turf slipped through his fingers in a nail-biting finish, edged out by An Byeong-hun in a playoff after both were deadlocked at 17-under-par.
Post-event, a photo of a mangled locker went viral on social media, allegedly the handiwork of our PGA Tour hero, venting his frustration at the Jack Nicklaus Club after losing to his Presidents Cup buddy.
Almost two weeks on, a KPGA committee held a meeting on Wednesday to determine the outcome of Kim’s actions, as the 22-year-old avoided a severe punishment, with just a warning according to Korea JoonAng Daily. Kim has also offered to pay for the damage caused.
Following the incident and the damage making its way onto social media, an apologetic Kim released a statement to his followers, and in doing so slammed ‘false reporting’ of the damange being intentional. “After the loss, I was frustrated, yes absolutely…” he wrote. on social media.
But I can assure you with absolute truth that I had no intent of damaging any part of the locker – not a single bit. “I addressed it with the DP World Tour and the KPGA right after the incident saying that the door came off.
We had to fully pull it off due to safety reasons, I also let them know that I was willing to pay all expenses for the damage.”
