As the Indianapolis Colts gear up for the 2025 season, they aren’t planning any major shakeups despite narrowly missing the playoffs in 2024. After securing nine wins in Shane Steichen’s first season and following up with eight in his second, the team believes it’s on the verge of a breakthrough.
However, to emerge as the top contender in the AFC South, the Colts may need to adopt an aggressive approach similar to the Houston Texans. In their case, this could mean making a bold move for an All-Pro defender.
One of Indianapolis’ biggest offseason moves was parting ways with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and bringing in former Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo. While Anarumo’s defenses have struggled with consistency, Cincinnati’s decision to let key defensive players walk in free agency has likely contributed to their decline.
Now with the Colts, Anarumo may be looking to reunite with four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Indianapolis has shown interest in trading for Hendrickson. However, the Bengals are reluctant to part ways with him, especially after securing contract extensions for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Hendrickson is entering the final year of his contract and is expected to sign an extension this offseason, reportedly seeking a deal exceeding $30 million per year. While Cincinnati remains hesitant to move him, Hendrickson has requested a trade, which could open the door for Indianapolis to make a compelling offer—possibly one centered around the 14th overall pick. However, since the Bengals hold the 17th pick, a straightforward swap appears unlikely.
