Why Tiger Woods’ son Charlie isn’t with dad at The Open after special US Open job

Tiger Woods will not be joined by his son Charlie at The Open this weekend after he played an important role at last month’s US Open. Charlie, who is 15 years old, has taken after his dad by honing his golf skills and has been widely tipped as a future star of the sport.

The teenager competed in a pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic in February before taking part in the US Open qualifier in April. He failed to make his debut on the PGA Tour but clearly possesses a lot of talent and will be hoping to keep developing on the same upward trajectory.

Woods is often joined by Charlie at tournaments but will be on his own at Royal Troon, with his son back home preparing for his next event. He is gearing up for his debut appearance in the US Junior Amateur, which starts at Oakland Hills Country Club the day after The Open finishes.
